Wind! Weather! Wildlife!
Oh My!

Remember, the Everglades area is a true wilderness. Each day, each trip is unique; one of the reasons I love living and guiding here. Wind, weather, and wildlife are unpredictable. The time of season, the phase of the moon, the tide (high, low, slack) can affect what's going to happen when you get out in your kayak . My best advice: "Expect the unexpected." When you come hoping to see (fill in the blank), you may or may not. When you come for the experience of paddling in an amazing wilderness, you are going to be thrilled!

The 6 months of November thru May are designated as the 'dry' season in southwest Florida. That simply means we don't experience the typical afternoon rains of the 'wet' season. It does not mean that the wind will not blow, really, really, blow; or the weather will not turn nasty. 'Nasty' is a matter of perspective. Rain and fresh water is the life blood of the Everglades . It is an amazing experience. Fronts move thru, weather changes. Here again, "expect the unexpected."

The Everglades are famous for wildlife, and rightly so. Sighting a rare roseate spoonbill thrills me immeasurably. Pelicans, the native brown, and migratory white, are often seen by kayakers . Shore birds, including the amazing oyster catcher, are frequently seen feeding in their native habitat. Birds of prey, including bald eagles, osprey, hawks, and falcons are exciting to watch as they fly above, or dive for fish. Bring your binoculars. You never know what will catch your eye as we quietly kayak within the Ten Thousand Islands of the Everglades National Park.

Marine life abounds! Bottle-nose dolphins, stingrays, sharks, manatee, sea turtles, sea stars, crabs, oysters, and endless varieties of fish make these waters their home. Alligators frequent fresh water routes; generally they are not found in the brackish, or saltier areas of the Everglades .

The mangrove jungle is one of the most impressive ecosystems on our planet. Kayaking thru it rates as one of my personal 'Top 10' adventures. You will see why as you discover the amazing biodiversity hidden within those tangled roots and branches.

When You and a Kayak venture into the Everglades National Park, you are in for an unforgettable experience!
